Ethical Standards in the Proxy Industry

At ProxyTool, we believe powerful technology comes with responsibility. Here's how we ensure our proxy tools are used ethically and transparently.

Consent-Based Sourcing

Every residential IP in our marketplace comes from users who have explicitly opted in. No hidden consent, no bundled software tricks.

Full Transparency

We openly share how our technology works, where our proxies come from, and how data flows through our infrastructure.

Privacy First

We never log, inspect, or store the contents of traffic routed through ProxyTool. Your data stays your data.

Responsible Use Policy

Our acceptable use policy prohibits illegal activity, harassment, fraud, and any abuse of proxy infrastructure.

How We Source Residential Proxies

The residential proxy industry has a history of opaque sourcing practices. We take a different approach. Every provider listed on the ProxyTool marketplace must meet our sourcing standards:

  • IP addresses must be obtained through informed, explicit user consent
  • Users sharing their connection must be clearly told what they're opting into
  • Compensation or exchange of value must be transparent and fair
  • Users must be able to opt out at any time with a single action
  • No SDK bundling in apps without prominent disclosure

We regularly audit our marketplace partners and remove providers that fail to meet these standards.

Data Privacy & Zero-Logging

ProxyTool operates under a strict no-logging policy for proxy traffic. This means:

  • We do not inspect, log, or store the content of your traffic
  • Connection metadata is used only for routing and billing, then discarded
  • We do not sell, share, or monetize any user data
  • DNS requests are resolved securely with leak protection built in

Our infrastructure is designed with privacy by default. Encryption is applied at every layer, from your device to the exit node.

Acceptable Use Policy

ProxyTool is built for legitimate use cases — web scraping, market research, security testing, ad verification, geo-testing, and privacy protection. The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Any illegal activity under applicable law
  • Unauthorized access to systems or networks
  • Distribution of malware, spam, or phishing content
  • Harassment, stalking, or threatening behavior
  • Fraudulent transactions or identity theft
  • Circumventing security measures for malicious purposes

Accounts found violating these policies will be suspended immediately. Repeated violations result in permanent bans.

Marketplace Partner Standards

Every proxy provider on our marketplace undergoes a vetting process before being listed. We evaluate:

  • IP sourcing methodology and consent mechanisms
  • Infrastructure security and data handling practices
  • Uptime, reliability, and support quality
  • Pricing transparency — no hidden fees or misleading metrics

We believe a healthy marketplace means holding all participants — including ourselves — to the highest standards.

Have a concern? If you believe any provider on our marketplace or any user of ProxyTool is violating these standards, please reach out to ethics@proxytool.io. We take every report seriously and investigate promptly.

Our Ongoing Commitment

Ethics isn't a one-time statement — it's an ongoing practice. We commit to:

  • Regular reviews and updates of our ethical guidelines
  • Transparency reports on marketplace partner compliance
  • Open dialogue with the proxy community on best practices
  • Supporting industry-wide initiatives for ethical proxy standards

We're building ProxyTool not just as a product, but as a standard for how proxy technology should be developed and used responsibly.
